WYHA Sponsored Clinic Announcement for 2017-18 Season

We received a lot of feedback in the 2016-17 season indicating people would like to see WYHA offer skills/skating clinics for our skaters as we already do for goalies. The following plan for 2017-18 was developed based on the feedback:

  • Travel: The travel teams will receive 1 skill clinic a month included in the fees they paid at registration time.
  • Empire House:
    • Squirt Transition: These will be run by the Squirt Coaches in September. Skills include full ice play, changing on the fly and face-offs.
    • House players (RWB, Squirt & PW/Bantam) will be offered skill clinics in September, December, and late January at a low cost (much lower than the normal clinic costs run by others, $30 for two 1 hour sessions). A registration will be available for players to register and pay for these clinics.  REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR THE House CLINICS - see ABOVE
    • Bantam/U14 & Midget/U18: Early season checking/body contact clinic for our Bantam and Midget House players to aid in teaching the proper body contact technique to help ensure their safety during the season. The clinic cost is included in the registration fee.
  • Goalie Clinics:
    • Will utilize the same plan as last year.  More details and date/times to come. Each clinic will have more than one instructor so at each clinic, the Goalies will be split by age group. Most Clinics will be on Mondays but some may be on Wednesdays.
We selected Jeff Corriveau to lead the clinics. Jeff and his crew are all former Webster hockey players and Webster high school players who moved on to play in college. Jeff is also the Thomas JV head coach, lives in Webster, will lead our very popular Beginner Program, and also will coach the RWB/U8 team his two children will play on. His bio is below.

The added clinics along with the off-ice skill development center opening this fall show WYHA is committed to the development of their players!

With back-to-back appearances in the Section V finals, Ryan was selected as a Tyler Putnam award winner and Josh Opelander Most Outstanding Goalie Award winner for the 2016-17 season. In addition, Ryan competed for Team Rochester at the Bowman Cup in Buffalo, NY.

Instructor: Zack Lamb

Zack is 23 years old, and I currently resides in Webster with his fiancée. He began playing hockey at the Webster Ice Rink at the age of 5 and continued to play for the organization over the next 11 years. Zack played his first two years at the Mite A level, then proceeded to play at the AA level for the next 9 years. Playing on competitive teams and improving every year, his Bantam Major AA team advanced to the state semifinals against the eventual tournament champions. Following one year at the Midget AA level, he played his final two years of youth hockey at the Midget AAA level. During this time, Zack made the Webster Thomas Titans High School Varsity Ice Hockey team as a freshman, and continued to play through his senior year. During his tenure at Webster Thomas, hockey team won four

Section V titles and a NYSPHSAA state championship. At the completion of his senior season Zack was selected to compete for Team Rochester at the Bowman's Cup in Buffalo. While attending St. John Fisher College Zack played club hockey all four years, winning one national title in 2014.

Zack graduated from Webster Thomas High School in 2011 and then went on to graduate from St. John Fisher College with a Bachelors degree in Nursing in 2015. He is a registered nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital on the Orthopedics inpatient unit. He is currently completing the Masters degree program at St. John Fisher College to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Wanting to stay involved in the game, Zack was an assistant coach for the WYHA Midget U16 AA tournament bound team in 2016-2017. He has plans to continue coaching in the future and views this opportunity as a great way to give back to the youth hockey organization that means so much to him.
