The Grant Lintala Sportsmanship Award

Grant was a PeeWee level WYHA player who died suddenly during the 2002 season from a rare form of bacterial strep.  He was a player who exemplified the meaning of sportsmanship.  He loved hockey and life!

Each year all WYHA coaches are asked to nominate one player from their team.  The nomination process begins with each coach submitting a letter stating the reason you feel your player should be awarded with this honor.

Criteria in selecting a player:
  • An understanding and appreciation for the rules of the game
  • Exercise representative behavior at all times
  • Recognize and appreciate skilled performance
  • Exhibit respect for the teammates, coaches, and officials.
  • Respect opponents
  • Compete vigorously and hard: be gracious to your opponent when they do the same
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude
  • Win with humility: lose with grace. Do both with dignity.

The winner receives a scholarship from WYHA to be used for hockey or academics.  This is a great honor and we hope kids and families will promote the values embodied in this award.

Please congratulate our 2016-17 Season Nominees!
